The Murugan
Temple of Palani is one of the oldest temples in the world. No one knows when
the temple was constructed. It is believed from the Tamil scriptures that
Bogar, one of the 18 siddhars, devised the moolavar (main idol) of Lord
Karthikeya. He was born in South India around 3000 BC.
The idol of the
Muruga in Palani, was created and consecrated by sage Bogar, one of aaseevaham's (Ancient
Tamil Culture) eighteen great siddhas out of an amalgam of nine poisons or
navapashanam.
Navapashanam is
an amalgam of nine poisonous herbs using a closely guarded ancient secret
formula by master siddha alchemist and made into a miraculous alchemical bead
said to possess powerful energies excellent for the physical body after wearing
it or drinking the water.
There are almost
700 steps to reach the hill temple. Alternatively ,there is a “3”
Haulage Winches(a small rope train) , and a Rope Car to goto the temple on the top of the hill.
Palani is situated in the Dindigul district
in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is about 112 km from Madurai and almost 152 km
from Tiruchirappalli.
The other famous tourist places near palani is kodaikanal , which is
called Its name in the Tamil language means "The Gift of the Forest".
Distance between Kodaikanal to Palani is 63 km
by Road along with an aerial distance of 26 km. There are no direct flights or
trains or buses between Kodaikanal to Palani.The convenient, fastest and
cheapest way to reach from Kodaikanal to Palani is to take Indica from
Kodaikanal to Palani.
